Zelenskyy Announces New Sanctions against Russian Military

Things aren’t going so well for Russia in its more than year-long invasion of Ukraine.

Russia is currently struggling to justify the war to its own citizens, and they’re making painfully slow progress while racking up extraordinary financial losses and casualties.

And Ukraine has announced new sanctions against individuals or legal entities who support or invest in “Russian aggression.”

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that Kyiv has sanctioned 322 companies that manufacture weapons and military components for Russia to invade Ukraine.

Additionally, more sanctions were announced against “individuals and legal entities that help circumvent sanctions against Russia.”

Zelenskyy explained, “The task is to remove any opportunity for Russia to circumvent sanctions. The tougher the sanctions against the Russian war economy, the faster the end of the aggression will be.”

However, while the sanctions may hurt the military progress and cause the Russian government headaches, they’re not touching the country’s wealthiest. The wealth of Russia’s billionaires rose to around half a trillion dollars in 2023 – jumping from $353B in 2022 to $505B in 2023.
