Chinese leader Xi Jinping spoke before the country’s annual meeting of parliament and the top advisory body this month.

He told the country’s top leaders that he is preparing the country for war throughout four separate speeches. While continually returning to the subject of war, at one point Jinping told his generals to “dare to fight.”

And it’s not just Jinping words that the world should be watching. The Chinese national defense budget has doubled over the past decade, increasing again last year by 7.2%.

China has also invested in other military-focused efforts such as integrating military readiness laws, new air raid shelters in cities near Taiwan, and “National Defense Mobilization” offices across the country, suggesting heightened military readiness.

While there’s no current conflict with China, it’s clear that Jinping at least believes it’s coming soon – and what one world leader manifests, other countries have to grapple with.
