Biden Speaks with President Zelenskyy to Offer Continued Support of Ukraine

Over the weekend, President Biden sat on the phone with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reaffirm the US support for Ukrainian defense against the Russian invasion.

Biden spoke about how the US is prioritizing efforts to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense by offering security assistance, which includes a recent announcement of $275 million in additional ammunition and equipment to counter the Russian use of unmanned aerial vehicles.

Biden also highlighted an announcement from November 29 promising $53 million to support energy infrastructure to strengthen the stability and recovery of Ukraine’s energy grid after Russia’s bombardment.

The US President told Zelenskyy that the US is committed to providing Ukraine with security, economic and humanitarian assistance, holding Russia accountable for war crimes, and imposing costs on Russia for its aggression.

Biden also praised Zelenskyy’s openness to a “just peace based on fundamental principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter.”
