Warriors Swap Jordan Poole For Chris Paul In Another NBA Blockbuster

The trades keep on coming in the NBA.

The Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole, a 2030 first-round pick, and a 2027 second-round pick to the Washington Wizards for veteran guard Chirs Paul on Thursday afternoon.

This deal may have sent shockwaves through the league a few years back, but in 2023, it is a cap-clearing move more than anything for the Warriors.

Poole’s four-year, $140 million contract was set to kick in this season. Paul is still set to make $30.8 million this upcoming year, but his deal expires at the end of the campaign.

Golden State now has further financial flexibility for the years ahead as they try to keep their contention window intact. On top of that, they get a solid veteran point guard who can competently lead the second unit.

As for the Wizards, it has been a busy few days. Paul was traded to the team just a day ago when Washington sent Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns. The Wizards also traded Kristaps Porzingis this offseason, resulting in a bounty of pick swaps for the rebuild.

Poole, as well as the newly-acquired Tyus Jones, will now lead the Wizards back court as they attempt to restructure the franchise.

This trade makes sense for both squads and more fireworks are sure to be in store as the summer progresses.
