Imagine being a former billionaire in jail, only eating bread, water, and peanut butter. That is what the lawyer of FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried is living off since his prison won’t help him with his vegan diet. Defense Attorney Mark Cohen also said that Bankman-Fried, 31, is not getting his prescribed Adderall, which allows him to focus. The judge in the case said that the prison does not offer a vegan or vegetarian diet.
Since his arrest in December, Bankman-Fried has been at his parent’s home in Palo Alto, California, on a 250 million dollar bail package but had to go to jail over allegations of witness tampering. The alleged con man leaked private diary entries of his ex-girlfriend, Caroline Ellison, a former CEO of Bankman’s Alameda Research, to the New York Times.
Bankman has pleaded ‘not guilty’ to wire fraud, securities fraud, and money laundering that defrauded customers of FTX and lenders to his cryptocurrency hedge fund, Alameda Research. The trial is set to begin on October 2nd.
