Robot Lawyers Coming Soon to a Court Room Near You

The world’s first “robot” lawyer powered by artificial intelligence will be taking its first court case next month.

The AI creation runs on a smartphone, listens to court arguments, formulates responses – and then tells the defendant what to say in real-time through a set of headphones.

DoNotPay CEO Joshua Browder thought it up.

The robot’s first case will involve a traffic ticket, with a court date of February 22.

DoNotPay already uses AI-generated form letters and chatbots to help people get refunds for in-flight Wifi that didn’t work, along with helping them lower bills, dispute parking tickets and address other daily issues.

Browder says that the AI templates have won over 2 million customer service disputes and court cases on behalf of people against institutions and organizations.

The CEO says that the goal of the technology is to democratize legal representation by making it free for those who can’t afford a good lawyer, eliminating the need for pricey attorneys in a lot of cases.

However, it faces an uphill battle as the tech is still illegal in many courtrooms and likely won’t be commercialized soon.
