New York Attorney General Letitia James announced today that the culmination of a three-year investigation into claims of fraud against Donald Trump and the Trump Organization is ending with a lawsuit. According to James, the Trump Organization made themselves wealthier through “numerous acts of fraud and misrepresentations.”
James laid out a case for Trump willfully lying about the valuation (or approving statements doing so) of the Trump Organization in order to obtain more favorable loan terms, pay lower taxes, and to “induce insurance companies to provide insurance coverage for higher limits at lower premiums.”
According to the complaint, the defendants (which include Trump, Trump’s kids and at least one business associate) “falsified business records, issued false financial statements, committed insurance fraud and engaged in conspiracy to commit these violations.”
James added that she believes Trump violated federal law and sent criminal recommendations to the Southern District of New York and the IRS.
Part of the remedy will include a $250M lawsuit.
James reiterated that white collar fraud is not a victimless crime, and that “no one is above the law.”
You would think New York would have better things to worry about than Trump but of course they just can’t help themselves. Makes you wonder what he has on all these people that they want him gone so badly.
