MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley’s Daughter Arrested for Leaving Newborn Baby in Freezing Temps

The daughter of MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley has been criminally charged.

Alexandra Eckersley is facing severe charges, which include endangering the welfare of a child, falsifying physical evidence, assault, and reckless conduct.

According to NBC Boston, Eckersley delivered her baby boy three months early in a tent in a wooded Manchester, New Hampshire, area.

She was 4 to 5 months pregnant when the baby arrived. Eckersley called the police to say she had given birth but lied about the baby’s whereabouts, leading them to a wild goose chase.

She was embarrassed that she and her boyfriend were homeless and living in an encampment.

But embarrassment doesn’t legally excuse the fact that she left the vulnerable premature newborn alone inside her tent for 73 minutes in 15-degree weather. Eventually, she provided the correct coordinates, and police found the infant alive but struggling for air.

Police believe Eckersley was high on drugs at birth, although she denies it. When asked about her lie, the new mother responded, “What do they tell when a plane goes down? Save yourself first.”
