Kyle Dubas Not Returning As Maple Leafs General Manager After Another Disappointing Exit

The first offseason domino has fallen for the Toronto Maple Leafs as general manager Kyle Dubas will not return for another season.

Dubas was in the final year of his contract, set to expire on June 30, and no extension was announced.

The 37-year-old’s tenure was an interesting one, as the team enjoyed bountiful success in the regular season and made the playoffs every year after he took over.

Alas, the Maple Leafs endured several playoff failures during that time frame, only winning a single playoff round (which came this season).

The initial thought was that the Leafs first-round victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning would save jobs throughout the organization, but an unceremonious five-game loss to the Florida Panthers in the second round was the final nail in the coffin.

With Dubas out of the picture, the Leafs now have to find a new general manager to navigate through an extremely busy offseason.

Rampant rumors are circulating around star players William Nylander and Auston Matthews, who both only have a single year left on their contracts, and this move is going to add even more fuel to the fire.
