Police in California have arrested this person months after a teenager committed suicide in a disturbing ‘sextortion’ case.

The tragic victim – 17-year-old Ryan Last – was allegedly being extorted for cash after sending a nude photo to someone he believed was a teen girl. San Jose PD has announced the arrest of 25-year-old Jonathan Kassi.

He is facing extortion charges and attempted disorderly conduct related to posting a photograph or recording without consent. Ryan died by suicide in May when someone he’d been chatting with online demanded he send them $5,000 upon receiving an intimate picture they had solicited from him.

A threat was allegedly made that the image would be sent to his family and friends if he did not pay up.

An investigation involving the FBI has since determined the scam was part of a large-scale criminal enterprise in which crooks from overseas were tricking young people into sharing compromising material before extorting them for cash.
