Hurricane Hilary Causes Evacuation at White Memorial Hospital Amid Power Outage

Hundreds of patients, including those requiring critical care, were urgently evacuated from Adventist Health White Memorial Hospital in Boyle Heights on early Tuesday due to a power outage that impacted a section of the medical complex.

Authorities managed the safe transfer of these patients to alternative facilities within the hospital campus and nearby medical centers, as reported by the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Responding to a power failure reported around 11:45 p.m. on Monday, firefighters were dispatched to the hospital premises, according to an official alert. A number of the evacuated patients were reliant on ventilators for their medical conditions.

The power disruption exclusively affected the Specialty Care Center within the hospital, leading to the evacuation of 241 patients, confirmed the fire department. The specific cause of the power interruption remains unclear at this juncture, though the incident coincided with the passage of Hilary, the first tropical storm to impact Los Angeles in 84 years.
