Here are the Top 20 ‘WTF’ Moments of 2022

It’s hard to believe that another year has come to a close. This time next week, we’ll be well into 2023 – a year full of promise.

But before we get to the new year, we have to look back at the shit storm that has comprised 2022.

And we’re bringing you a quick recap of the 20 most “what the actual fuck?” moments of 2022.

  1. The Slap Heard ‘Round the World, Will Smith’s famed Oscars slap of Chris Rock started the year off with a bang. Or, rather, a slap.
  2. Harry Styles gets beaned in the beans: fans love to toss mementos on stage for fave celebs, but poor Harry caught the worst of it when something chucked by a fan caught him in the nads.
  3. Heidi Klum: Klum is known for her homemade and unique costumes, but this year she turned heads (and a few stomachs) with her earthworm costume.
  4. Lil Nas X drops the kids off at the pool: the beloved singer/performer had to pause a show in Atlanta to drop a mean deuce, in today’s “that’s too much information” recap.
  5. Katy Perry, robot extraordinaire: Perry’s eyelid malfunctioned while she was posing on stage, and she couldn’t seem to keep it open. Fans speculated on everything from a stroke to the fact that she’s really a robot – but it was probably just a muscle spasm from too much performing.
  6. Zac Efron: Everyone was shocked and uncomfortable when former Disney star Zac Efron turned out to be a dreamy beefcake, but this year he knocked it up a notch and turned his body into that of a pro wrestler, looking unrecognizable for his role in “The Iron Claw.”
  7. Sarah Jessica Parker’s pigeon: Animal purses are the hot ticket item this year, but SJP made people a little uncomfy with her too-realistic pigeon purse which made headlines for some reason.
  8. Olivia Wilde’n out: Olivia Wilde was on stage at CinemaCon when she was served custody docs by her ex-husband Jason Sudeikis.
  9. I get knocked down, but I get up again: A badass and dedicated reporter got hit by a car on air, then popped back up and finished her piece.
  10. Speaking of Heidi Klum: Klum also got a little TMI when she shared a nightmare date scenario with Jimmy Kimmel Live, explaining that her date kept a large tub of popcorn on his lap as they went to the movies together. But at one point, when Klum reached into the bucket for a handful of popcorn, she got a handful of something else because her date never learned to keep food and fun separate.
  11. GMA OMG: The set of GMA was rocked when it was revealed that co-stars Amy Robach and TJ Holmes were doing the dirty behind the scenes.
  12. Mar-a-Lago and the FBI, a love story for the ages: US voters were stunned when the FBI turned up at the home of former POTUS Donald Trump (Mar-a-Lago) to raid his compound for documents he illegally brought home after his term expired.
  13. Elon Musk: Although Musk’s Tesla is on the down and outs this year, things seemed good for the world’s richest man when he partnered with buddies from Saudi Arabia to buy social media platform Twitter. But since then, it’s been bad news bears – Musk is not only no longer the world’s richest man, but he may be one of the world’s most hated after his volatile behavior on Twitter turned people off from his once-rascally charm.
  14. Omicron: Earlier this year, the name of the COVID game was Omicron and people feared another round of COVID pandemic would bring the world to its knees. But the one good thing about a super-virulent strain of COVID is that more people got infected with fewer deaths, driving up natural immunity.
  15. Recession? What recession?: This year, economists keep predicting an economic recession would kick off. It likely still will, but aggressive rate hikes through the Fed and other stopgap measures from the Biden administration have so far pushed the recession back. It’s likely the recession will be a problem for 2023, after experts feared it would come earlier this year.
  16. Bella Hadid’s dress in a can: It didn’t exactly come in a can, but Hadid made headlines this year when she walked the runway at Paris Fashion Week in a sprayed-on dress by Coperni.
  17. Meta failure: Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg decided to invest big in the creation of his confusing dream, the Metaverse. But people have seemed singularly uninterested in the technology, leaving Meta stocks tanking as the company scrambles to make up for a bad investment.
  18. House of the Dragon: Game of Thrones’ long-awaited new series arrive this year amid blood and fire. House of the Dragon captivated audiences starved for some good old-fashioned blood and gore, and people once again found a way to be enamored of incestuous and abusive relationships.
  19. Kanye: Kanye West, now known just as Ye, flew off the ledge this year, spouting violently antisemitic beliefs and getting himself banned from nearly every good brand deal/event/social media platform. It comes amid his highly public divorce from ex Kim Kardashian.
  20. Speaking of Kim: Remember when Kim Kardashian was hot and heavy with Pete Davidson? That was weird as fuck.

The one thing 2022 really has going for it is that it’s over.
