First Date Tips From Gen Z

Gen Z is becoming our “How-To” experts on all things dating because well, they’re the ones out in the game experiencing modern-day love while the earlier generations getting divorced or breaking up figure out how to navigate single life.

Ironically, their tips and expectations look a lot like what romance was like before technology took over the world the way that it has.

TikTok user Isabella Duffy shared “First Date Tips” for those on the market.

  • “If you know for a fact that this man is not a serial killer, like if you have mutual friends and you know each other, he should definitely pick you up.” Adding, “If you don’t know him, just meet him there.”
  • Did you know about the “two-drink rule?” Duffy says, “No more than two drinks on a first date that way you don’t say or do anything you’ll regret the next day.”
  • Only one location is necessary for the first day. Don’t go to a second location. “After the first date you go home. You don’t go anywhere else with them. They have to earn the second hangout.”
  • This one’s obvious but shockingly goes over a lot of people’s heads. ASK QUESTIONS ABOUT THEMSELVES. “Naturally, people really like talking about themselves, it’s science, so if you ask someone on a date a bunch of questions about themselves, like just so many questions, they’re literally gonna leave and be like ‘best date ever!'”
  • Don’t bring up your ex on the first date and if the other person brings up theirs, consider it a red flag of not being ready.
  • Be overdressed than underdressed.
  • Don’t be too serious. “Just have fun and enjoy the night,” says Duffy.
  • Avoid talking too much about future desires in terms of family, kids, and buying a home.
  • Leave something for the imagination. Don’t dress too provocatively.
  • Say ‘Thank you’ if they pay for the night.
