Europe Secures Seventh Consecutive Ryder Cup Victory on Home Turf

Europe clinched another Ryder Cup triumph, marking their seventh consecutive win on home soil, as they officially secured the decisive 14.5 points needed during Sunday singles. Their victory was a testament to their star players and a remarkable team effort over the first two days, leading to their eighth victory in the last 11 editions of the competition.

In the pivotal 11th match, Tommy Fleetwood secured a crucial half point against Rickie Fowler. With a one-hole lead as they approached the par-4 16th hole, Fleetwood’s tee shot landed 23 feet from the pin after Fowler found the water. Although Fleetwood narrowly missed an eagle putt, Fowler conceded a 2-foot, 8-inch birdie putt, sealing Europe’s victory. This win ensured at least a tie for Europe, pushing them beyond the required point total.

The European team strategically fielded their top players early in Sunday’s singles matches, earning 2.5 points thanks to standout performances by Jon Rahm, Viktor Hovland, and Rory McIlroy. With a commanding lead of 10.5 to 5.5 going into the final day, Europe effectively withstood an initial surge by the U.S. team, ultimately needing only 1.5 points from the remaining nine matches to secure their victory.

The notion of a new era of American dominance, following their 19 to 9 win at Whistling Straits in 2021, was put to rest, largely attributed to the stellar performance of McIlroy. With a remarkable record of 4-1-0 across five sessions, the four-time major champion achieved his best Ryder Cup performance to date and outperformed all players at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club.
