Elon Musk Proposes Closing on Original Deal to Buy Twitter For $44 Billion

Elon Musk, in a stunning development, has suggested closing on his original deal terms to buy Twitter for $44 billion.

A source close to the situation revealed the surprising development, which could be the only way to avoid a high-stakes trial that is set to begin soon. Musk was scheduled to be deposed later this week in preparation for the trial.

Elon Musk’s lawyers sent the proposal to Twitter’s lawyers overnight Monday, filing a letter with the Delaware Chancery Court ahead of an emergency hearing on the deal scheduled for Tuesday.

If Twitter accepts the proposal (not a sure bet), it would postpone a five-day nonjury trial set to begin October 17.

But if a deal isn’t struck, the trial may have to go ahead as planned.
