Former President Donald Trump was making a tour of his Scottish and Irish golf courses, when he abruptly cut the trip short.

Trump told reporters early Thursday that he was heading back to New York to “confront” accuser E Jean Carroll – who alleges that Trump raped her in a Bergdorf Goodman in 1996.

Carroll is suing Trump for battery and defamation, which she claims happened when he denied the assault years later and attacked her character.

Trump’s lawyer said earlier this week that the former POTUS would not be appearing in court to make a defense against Carroll’s accusations, and all seemed quiet as Trump was content to golf and ignore the case.

However, something changed midweek which prompted Trump to cut short his trip and head home in a rush. While Trump won’t go to jail over the case even if it’s decided against him – it’s just a civil case – he could end up owing Carroll a sizable settlement if the jury rules in her favor.
