Do You Share Your Netflix Password? Not Anymore!

It’s the end of an era and could be the end of Netflix.

Password sharing between accounts has long been something the streaming company has sought to end, calling it a violation of its terms of service. But they had no natural way to enforce it.

Now, they’re cranking up efforts to punish violators and will start charging accounts for password sharing early next year.

Each person outside your household who uses the account will add a fee to your plan as an “extra member” and could run between $3.50-$4 per person.

It’s an attempt to plug a hemorrhage the company feels from lost revenue as users avoid paying independent fees by sharing with friends and family.

But it may be bad news for the streaming giant. Many people only use the platform because they can split or share it with friends, and instead of getting their own plans may be likely to just ditch #Netflix altogether.

But if you really want to stick around and can’t afford a full-priced, ever-increasing subscription, there may be some good news: Netflix is planning to offer a cheaper option, supported by ads.

The extra user fees are a risk and not a customer-friendly move – but Netflix has been full of those these days.
