Disney is laying off around 7,000 staff this year in a series of layoffs.

The first round of layoffs includes all 50 members of the Next generation Storytelling & Consumer Experiences unit, a metaverse-dedicated team.

The layoffs come as part of Disney’s plan to reduce cost and “streamline” its business approach.

A next round of layoffs is expected next month, followed by a final one over the summer.
