Devastating Twin Earthquakes in Western Afghanistan Claim Over 2,000 Lives

In a catastrophic turn of events, western Afghanistan was struck by two powerful magnitude 6.3 earthquakes, followed by a series of robust aftershocks. The toll from this disaster has been devastating:

  • More than 2,000 lives have been tragically lost.
  • Over 2,000 individuals, including women and children, have sustained injuries.

Taliban disaster management officials have been diligently working to assess the extent of the catastrophe. According to Mullah Janan Saiq, a spokesman for the state Ministry for Disaster Management, the grim statistics stand at “2445 people, including women and children, were killed, and 2440 people, including women and children, are wounded.”

As the rescue and relief efforts continue, the death toll is regrettably expected to rise. It is reported that nearly 10,000 individuals were residing in the villages directly affected by these powerful earthquakes.
