Detroit Red Wings Acquire Alex DeBrincat From Ottawa Senators

The Detroit Red Wings made a big offseason splash on Sunday evening, acquiring two-time 40-goal scorer Alex DeBrincat from the Ottawa Senators.

The Wings gave up forward Dominik Kubalik, prospect defenseman Donovan Sebrango, a conditional 2024 first-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick in the deal.

Detroit, who own multiple first-round picks in the 2024 draft, will get to choose which selection the Sens receive.

DeBrincat is a big get for the Red Wings, who were in desperate need of a bonafide goal scorer. The 25-year-old was immediately signed to a four-year, $7.875 AAV contract.

It was apparent that DeBrincat did not want to be in Ottawa any longer and as a Michigan native, he had Detroit at the top of his destination list.

Perhaps this move will help the Red Wings snap their seven-year playoff drought, while the Senators will look to break their six-year postseason slide with Kubalik and extra cap space in the fold.
