China Prepares for a New Wave of COVID-19 Cases with up to 65 Million Weekly Infections

As the world still battles the COVID-19 pandemic, China is bracing itself for a new wave of infections that could see up to 65 million cases per week, according to a report by the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The report, which was published in the Chinese Journal of Epidemiology, states that the new wave could be triggered by the spread of the Delta variant, which is highly contagious and has already caused outbreaks in several countries.

The CDC report highlights the need for China to step up its vaccination efforts, as the country has so far only fully vaccinated 11.5% of its population. The report also recommends that China continues to implement strict measures such as lockdowns and travel restrictions to prevent the spread of the virus.

China has already started taking action to curb the spread of the Delta variant. The country has imposed strict lockdowns in several cities, including Beijing and Wuhan, and has increased border controls to prevent the entry of infected individuals.

Despite the new wave of cases, the Chinese government remains confident in its ability to contain the virus. In a recent statement, the National Health Commission said that China had the capacity to conduct up to 20 million COVID-19 tests per day and had adequate medical resources to deal with any outbreak.
