A shooting incident unfolded at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a faculty member lost their life due to a shooting on campus.

Swift action by authorities led to the apprehension of a suspect, as the campus community endured hours of lockdown while the police conducted their investigation.

Around 1:02 p.m. ET, shots were heard within the premises of Caudill Laboratories, prompting an immediate response. By 2:30 p.m., Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz confirmed that a suspect had been taken into custody. At this juncture, the identities of the faculty member and the apprehended individual remain undisclosed.

UNC Police Chief Brian James noted that determining the motive behind the shooting is a priority, stating, “We really want to know the ‘why’ in this case and what led to it.”
In response to the alarming situation, the university swiftly issued an alert to students, urging them to shelter in place.
