Boston Bruins All-In On Quest For Franchise’s Seventh Stanley Cup

There is no secret who the best team in the NHL has been this year.

That would be the Boston Bruins, who became the fastest team in NHL history to reach 100 points after last night’s 7-1 drubbing of the Buffalo Sabres.

They sit atop the league standings with a sparkling 48-8-5 record. Their goal differential is at a laughably high +103. For comparison sake, the New Jersey Devils own the league’s second best goal differential at +53.

Despite the extensive success, Boston general manager Don Sweeney did not rest on his laurels.

He went out and acquired top-four defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who has promptly recorded eight points in four games since joining the team. Rugged winger Garnet Hathaway also came over in the deal.

On Thursday, he made another splash by acquiring former 30-goal scorer Tyler Bertuzzi from the Detroit Red Wings.

Adding these players to a core of David Pastrnak, Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, and Charlie McAvoy (among other skilled individuals) gives them an enviable collection of talent.

The Bruins are all-in. Time will tell if they can deliver on the now sky-high expectations.
