Blue Jays Anthony Bass Backtracks After Sharing Anti-LGBTQ Rhetoric On Instagram

The Toronto Blue Jays are already in the midst of a difficult season, finding themselves in last place in the AL East after 54 games.

Reliever Anthony Bass added fuel to the negative fire through his Instagram account on Monday by sharing a post that encouraged boycotts of Target and Bud Light to spurn the companies for showing support to LGBTQ communites.

The caption of the aforementioned video from a devoutly Christian account claimed that Target had “teamed up with a satanist to push pro Satan clothing” and stated that “the enemy isn’t even hiding anymore.”

After a tidal wave of backlash, the 35-year-old Bass apologized on Tuesday for sharing the content, stating that “the ballpark is for everybody.”

“I recognize yesterday I made a post that was hurtful to the Pride community, which includes friends of mine and close family members of mine,”’ Bass said. “I am truly sorry for that.”

Blue Jays manager John Schneider also commented on the situation, stating “we’re not going to pretend like this never happened … there are definitely more steps that are going to follow.”

Coincidentally, the Blue Jays Pride Weekend is fast approaching, taking place on June 9-11.

Bass, who has previously caused controversy through social media this season, has posted five-straight scoreless outings for the Jays but owns a 4.50 ERA on the year.
