Angels Season Hangs In The Balance With Mike Trout, Shohei Ohtani Injuries

The Los Angeles Angels inability to make the postseason despite having two of the best talents in the game has been well documented.

The Angels have managed a slight winning record this year, sitting at 45-43, which puts them four games back in the wild card race.

Alas, catastrophe hit on Tuesday.

The timeless Mike Trout was put on the 10-day injured list with a fractured hamate bone in his left hand. He will miss several weeks.

That night, presumptive American League MVP Shohei Ohtani was forced to leave his start due to a blister on his hand. He did not look like himself on the mound, allowing five runs on seven hits across five innings of work.

Veteran hitter Anthony Rendon also left the game after fouling a pitch off of his foot, while Brandon Drury and Logan O’Hoppe continue to be sidelined with prior ailments.

The Angels have now lost six of their last seven games. It is hard to envision them turning things around with so many key contributors on the shelf.

Perhaps their unheralded players can step up and keep them in the race until Trout and Ohtani return to health, but it feels like it will be another disappointing campaign for a tortured franchise.
