Angelina Jolie Visits Yucatan Peninsula for New Bee Conservation Initiative

Angelina Jolie visited Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula in support of a new conservation initiative for Guerlain’s Women for Bees Program.

Women for Bees teamed up with the Fundación Selva Maya (FSM), a non-profit organization focused on saving the Melipona beecheii. They are the sacred bees of the ancient Mayan civilization.

The collab aims to support ancient beekeeping traditions among Mayan women, and tackle some of the greatest dangers to the Melipona bee population, a small and desperately endangered population.

Jolie traveled to Mexico to meet with Mayan women and learn more about why the Melipona bee is so important in maintaining biodiversity in the Yucatan.
