American Gaming Association Bans Sportsbooks from Collegiate Partnerships

The U.S. gambling industry continues to take shape, with the most recent changes focused on college campuses.

Sportsbooks are now barred from partnering with colleges to promote their gambling products, while college athletes are unable to accept money from sportsbook operators in NIL deals.

The new policies also prohibit sportsbooks from using “risk-free” language in their promotional materials and anyone featured in sports betting advertising now has to be at least 21 or older.

There were five collegiate sportsbook partnerships in the U.S. that will now be dismantled. Most notably, Caesars Sportsbook had deals with Michigan State University and Louisiana State University.

These partnerships already landed the entertainment titan in a bit of hot water when a promotional email was sent to both student databases, as dozens of students who were too young to legally bet received the material.

Much like any new industry, sports betting is going to be an ever-evolving entity.
