On a former television series called “The Newsroom,” one character was prompted to respond to the question: why is America the greatest country in the world?
And what he responded has gone viral many times over since the episode aired – with people sharing his impassioned response to stir the soul and inspire change. #RiseUp
But nearly 10 years later, not much has actually gotten better – and maybe it’s time today’s young people actually do something about it.
In the clip, Will responds that America is not the greatest country, but it used to be. According to him, once upon a time, America waged war on poverty instead of poor people, didn’t “beat our chests” aggressively, and offered hope for tomorrow.
He refers to a number of true (but now outdated) statistics that point to America’s dismal literacy rate, infant mortality rate and other metrics by which the US is most definitely not “the greatest.”
It’s the kind of soul-stirring call to revolution and arms that people with hope for tomorrow – or those who need hope – should hear.
So what are you all doing about it ?
Me personally I’m starting up a small company that uses plastic waste and recycles it into clothing for people to wear. Changing this world one plastic bag at a time
I’d LOVE to see what you’re up to
America is LITERALLY the greatest country in the world. CRAZY how people think otherwise
