CONFIRMED

After Nine Seasons, Derek Carr and the Raiders Parting Ways

Derek Carr is a free agent for the first time in his life.

After nine seasons with the Raiders, Carr has been released. A contract with a deadline of February 15 would have guaranteed Carr $40.4 million in future earnings.

But the release was not unexpected, and Carr told the Raiders he would not accept a trade to the New Orleans Saints or any other club. His most recent contract, signed last April, included a no-trade clause.

Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels and manager Dave Zeigler said in a joint statement, “We have a lot of respect for Derek Carr and what he has meant to the Raiders organization for the last nine years. Derek has done great things in this league, and we’re thankful to have been able to work with him this past year. He is a true professional, and we appreciate his hard work in striving to produce the desired results. We wish Derek and his family all the best in the future.”
