Ukrainian authorities say they discovered a room that Russians used to torture children. At the same time, their forces occupied the Ukrainian city of Kherson, according to Human Rights Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada Dmytro Lubinets.

Testimonials from locals suggest that other torture victims in the facility knew that Ukrainian children were being held there by Russian security forces. The Russians apparently called the room “the children’s cell.”

According to Lubinets, the children were given little water and almost no food. Locals say the children were subjected to psychological abuse, with their captors telling them that their parents had abandoned them and they would never return home.

One boy, just 14, was arrested and tortured for taking a picture of broken Russian equipment.

Lubinets explained, “We recorded the torture of children for the first time. I thought that the bottom could not be broken after Bucha, Irpin… but we really reached the bottom in Kherson.”
