Wisconsin Governor Wants to Front Brewers Stadium $300M for Repairs

Brewers Stadium could soon look a whole lot nicer.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers wants to give the Milwaukee Brewers nearly $300 million from the state’s budget surplus to enact repairs and renovations at American Family Field.

On Tuesday, Evers announced that his executive budget includes $290M for stadium repairs.

In exchange, the Brewers would extend their lease at the stadium through 2043, an additional 13 years.

Evers’ office released a statement that read in part, “As governor, and also someone who happens to be a lifelong Brewers fan, I’m so excited about the historic opportunity we have today to keep Major League Baseball here in Milwaukee for another twenty years and to usher in a new generation of Brewers fans in Wisconsin who can grow up rooting for the home team just like I did.”

The deal isn’t hammered in stone yet, though, as Evers still has to release his budget and give Republicans on the Legislature’s finance committee four months to revise it before sending it to the Senate.

If the Senate and Assembly approve it, it will go back to Evers’ desk, where he can rewrite it again using veto powers.
