Treasury Department Looking into Florida’s Use of COVID Funds for Migrant Flight

For months, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis threatened to bus migrants from borders to progressive states as a way to prove that people who support immigration should be the ones to bear the financial burden.

But now, the Treasury Department is looking into an incident where he did precisely that.

In September, DeSantis loaded up two planes full of migrants in Texas and flew them to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts.

A watchdog with the US Treasury Department believes COVID funds were possibly illegally used for the political stunt.

Richard Delmar, the Treasury Department’s deputy inspector general, wrote on October 7 that the department plans “to get this work underway as quickly as possible.” The investigation is a more comprehensive look into how Florida used COVID relief funds.

The $12M relocation stunt was paid for using interest earned off COVID relief money.
