Texas Sent 3,000 Driver’s Licenses to Organized Crime Group

The Texas Department of Public Safety was tricked into sending 3,000 driver’s licenses to an organized crime group from China.

The group targeted Asian Texans for the scam, obtaining the licenses by using the personal information of real people.

They then sold the licenses to people who are in the country illegally.

The agency discovered the scam in December, and will start sending out letters notifying victims this week. Officials are still working on identifying additional victims.

The information the group used reportedly came from the “dark web.” It includes previous addresses and family names. The scam ran through the state’s portal, Texas.gov.
