Team USA Falls 3-2 to Japan in Pulse-Pounding World Baseball Classic Final

Despite a hefty amount of star power, Team USA came up just short against Japan in the 2023 World Baseball Classic final on Tuesday night.

The Japanese squad, led by Shohei Ohtani and a collection of other stars, persevered in an exciting 3-2 victory.

Ohtani, who served as the designated hitter during the game, entered as a relief pitcher to close out the game in the 9th inning.

He punctuated the victory with an all-time baseball moment by striking out his friend, Los Angeles Angels teammate, and fellow All-Star Mike Trout.

Munetaka Murakami and Kazuma Okamoto both hit solo home runs for Japan, who captured their first WBC title since 2009.

Trea Turner and Kyle Schwarber went deep for the Americans in a losing effort.

What a game, and what a World Baseball Classic!
