Special counsel David Weiss has announced plans to pursue an indictment against Hunter Biden, President Joe Biden’s son, in connection with gun-related charges by the end of this month, according to the Justice Department’s statement on Wednesday.
Hunter Biden had previously entered into an agreement related to a gun possession charge, which could have spared him from prosecution if he met specific conditions within a 24-month period. Following the breakdown of his plea deal in court, the fate of the gun-related matter has been uncertain.
“The Speedy Trial Act mandates that the Government secure an indictment from a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest. The Government intends to request an indictment in this case before that deadline,” stated the special counsel’s office in a court filing.
