Queen Elizabeth II has Died Surrounded by Family at the Age of 96

England’s longest-reigning monarch has passed away at the age of 96.

Queen Elizabeth II was crowned in 1953, and has ruled her people through decades of turmoil including multiple wars, unrest, economic instability and changes brought by the modern technological era.

It was announced early Thursday that the Queen was under medical supervision as doctors were concerned about her health, and family rushed to her side at Balmoral Castle from across the world.

The Royal Family made the heartbreaking announcement on Twitter just after mid-day Eastern time, writing, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.

The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”

Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II, is next in line for the throne.
