Paul Pelosi Attacker Charged with Attempting to Kidnap and Murder Nancy

Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul is “making steady progress” on what will end up being a long and complicated recovery process, according to the House Speaker in a statement Monday.

42-year-old David DePape has been charged with a number of crimes, including assault, attempted murder, attempted kidnapping and more, after he broke into the couple’s San Francisco home last Friday. These new charges join state charges filed against him already which include attempted murder, residential burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse, false imprisonment of an elder along with threats to a public official and their family.

Once inside, he assaulted Paul with a hammer and reportedly was looking for Nancy to hold her hostage – and his charges reflect his intent to capture an elected official even though she had the fortune to be across the country at the time of the attack.

The statement from Nancy also read, “Since the horrific attack on Paul early Friday, we have been deluged with thousands of messages conveying concern, prayers and warm wishes. Our family thanks everyone for their kindness.”

San Francisco Attorney Brooke Jenkins confirmed that the attack was “politically motivated”. Brooke explains, “Yes, it appears as though this was, based on his statements and comments that were made in that house during his encounter with Mr. Pelosi, that this was politically motivated.”

Nancy has shared that she is “heartbroken” and “traumatized” by the violent assault.
