OpTic Gaming has officially taken the title of World Champion at this month’s $1 million HCS World Championship.
It was an extraordinary moment of victory for OpTic, coming just weeks after they took the big win at the HCS Orlando Major.
Up until the Grand Final, it was anyone’s tournament between OpTic, Sentinels, and favorite Cloud9, but OpTic was able to take the ultimate Halo eSports prize.
OpTic’s win was almost perfect, dropping just one map total throughout the showdown’s Pool Play and Championship stages, right up until they sat down with Cloud9.
The Grand Final featured a best-of-seven bracket reset, with OpTic going 1-4 in the first phase. But they returned in the second phase 4-0, showing why they deserved to be the victors.
OpTic walked away with $400K, Cloud9 with $220K, and Native Gaming Red earned $110K.
