Officer Who Helped Kill George Floyd Gets Prison Time for Aiding and Abetting Manslaughter

Former Officer Thomas Lane helped hold down the legs of George Floyd when he was infamously murdered in 2020.

Lane recently started serving 2.5 years on a federal sentence and has received 31 days of time served against this new state charge that includes aiding and abetting manslaughter.

A victim statement was read by prosecutors in the courtroom on behalf of the Floyd family; “We want everyone here today to know we will never move on. You will always show up for George Floyd but never move on.”

Judge Peter Cahill also ruled that Lane will be prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition for the rest of his life.

Lane did not address the court after his sentencing, but he reacted viciously on the hot mic after being told that he would have to register as a predatory offender if required by law.

Lane whispered to his attorney, “I have to register as a predatory offender; what the fuck is that? That’s what [Derek] Chauvin has to do. If I had a minimal role, why the fuck do I have to do that?”

The attorney responded that the case notes say “if required by law,” but since it’s not, he won’t have to register.

Lane’s concerns in the wake of his sentencing give a fascinating insight into a man who helped kill another human – and seem to be focused on all the wrong things.
