Nevada Earns $649M in Taxes on $3.6B Worth of Marijuana Sold Since it was Made Legal

In November 2016, Nevada voters opted to approve marijuana in the state with a ballot initiative that established a licensed and regulated system of marijuana retail outlets for customers over the age of 21.

The law kicked in on January 1, 2017, and the first retail outlet opened in July 2017.

Since then, the state has sold $3.6B worth of marijuana products. And has earned $649M in taxes on those sales with a cannabis excise tax of 15% on both recreational and medical.

The state has also garnered around $20M from applications, licenses, and other fees related to the industry.
