Netflix Considers Investing in Live Sports and Bids for Streaming Rights

Netflix is taking a page out of the playbook of its competitors like Hulu, considering investing in live sports and bidding for streaming rights.

Before now, Netflix exclusively streamed pre-recorded content.

But now, they may be pouring cash into an opportunity to pick up live sports streaming on which other platforms are dropping the ball.

Netflix recently bid on streaming rights for the ATP tennis tour for some European countries (including France and the UK) but dropped out.

However, they may not be out for good.

Netflix has also discussed bidding for other events (including UK rights to the Women’s Tennis Association and cycling competitions). They were also in talks late last year to acquire the World Surf League.

So far, they’re publicly mum on the attempted bids.
