Meta Will Lay Off 10,000 More Workers and Not Fill 5,000 Vacant Jobs

Things are going from bad to worse for Meta.

The tech titan announced Tuesday that they will be cutting an additional 10,000 employees. This comes after they laid off 11,000 people in November.

Additionally, they won’t be filling 5,000 current jobs which are vacant.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has touted 2023 as Meta’s “year of efficiency,” and talked about “cutting projects that aren’t performing or may no longer be crucial” while also “removing layers of middle management to make decisions faster.”

He said that the changes will allow Meta to become “a stronger and more nimble organization.”

Zuckerberg said in a message to employees this year, “Here’s the timeline you should expect: over the next couple of months, org leaders will announce restructuring plans focused on flattening our orgs, canceling lower priority projects, and reducing our hiring rates.” He suggested that this “new economic reality” could “continue for many years.”
