Levi’s Will Use AI-Generated Fakes Alongside Human Models

Add modeling to the industries that soon may be replaced by AI.

Levi’s is partnering with Amsterdam-based digital model studio Lalaland.ai to “supplement human models” with images generated by AI.

The company says it’s part of a “digital transformation journey” of diversity, equity, inclusion and sustainability.

However, is it really diversity if they’re just simulating diverse models rather than actually hiring them?

Lalaland.ai was founded in 2019 with a mission to “see more representation in the fashion industry” and “create an inclusive, sustainable, and diverse design chain.” The idea was to let customers see what fashion items would look like on a person who looks like them through “hyper-realistic” models of “Every body type, age, size and skin tone.”

Levi’s said of the partnership, “We see fashion and technology as both an art and a science, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Lalaland.ai, a company with such high-quality technology that can help us continue on our journey for a more diverse and inclusive customer experience.” They added, “AI will likely never fully replace human models for us.”

Likely isn’t definitely – so models beware.
