Joe Biden Tweets and Twitter Promptly Fact-Checks Him in the Era of Elon Musk

They were mistaken if President Joe Biden and his people thought they could keep plugging along with business as usual under the reign of Twitter’s new boss, Elon Musk.

Less than 48 hours after he took the reins of the tech company, Musk’s people had already fact-checked the President.

Biden tweeted on the @POTUS account, “Let me give you the facts. In 2020, 55 corporations made $40 billion. And they paid zero in federal taxes. My Inflation Reduction Act puts an end to this.”

Under the tweet, a Twitter flag read, “Readers added context they thought people might want to know.”

The flagged content added, “The Inflation Reduction Act imposed a minimum tax on corporations with average pre-tax earnings greater than $1 billion. Out of the 55 corporations the tweet references, only 14 had earnings greater than $1 billion and would be eligible under Biden’s tax law.”

Political pandering is coming to a close on Twitter – at least from one side of the aisle. It remains to be seen how equitable Twitter becomes in the era of Musk.
