Israel Declares State of War Following Hamas Surprise Attack

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declared that Israel is now “at war” in the wake of a shocking surprise attack launched by Gaza militants on Saturday. This audacious assault involved the firing of thousands of rockets and the infiltration of Israel via land, sea, and even the use of paragliders. The consequences have been significant, with at least 40 people losing their lives and nearly 800 others injured in Israel, according to officials.

Meanwhile, in Gaza, the Palestinian health ministry reports at least 198 Palestinians killed on Saturday, and 1,610 more injured as a result of the conflict. Israel has responded to the attack with air strikes on Gaza, with Prime Minister Netanyahu emphasizing the intent to “impose a significant cost on the enemy.”

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have mobilized their troops, engaging in combat in multiple locations across the region. Disturbingly, some residents in Israel have reported that militants attempted to breach their homes. Hamas has also asserted that they have taken several Israeli soldiers captive near the border.

This devastating assault occurred on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 War, during which Arab states launched a surprise attack against Israel on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar.
