Instagram Users Locked Out After Widespread Outage

Thousands of Instagram users found themselves facing an unwelcome Halloween surprise as they logged in Monday only to find their accounts blocked or suspended.

At least 7,000 users are known to be affected, but a much larger number could be impacted and simply aren’t aware yet (or aren’t reporting it). It mostly seems to be affecting high-profile users, ex: Cristiano Ronaldo who appears to have lost 3 million followers in the past day.

Users are claiming that the site asked for their email and phone numbers to reactivate their accounts. One user took to Twitter with the comment, “Some of us had to put in our email and phone number to verify the account. Now the password has been changed and we can’t get back in because our password has been changed.”

Instagram posted on Twitter Monday, “We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”

But it’s more than inconvenient – one IG user tweeted, “It’s not just down – you’re suspending accounts and threatening deletion!!”
