House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, on Tuesday, announced his decision to instruct congressional committees to initiate a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This move occurs even as the allegations of direct financial gain from his son’s foreign business dealings remain unproven.
Speaking outside his Capitol Hill office, the California Republican explained his rationale, stating, “These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption that warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That’s why today I am directing our House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.”
It is worth noting that the GOP-led investigations in the House have thus far failed to produce concrete evidence linking President Biden to financial gains from his son Hunter Biden’s foreign business ventures.
McCarthy has chosen Representatives James Comer of Kentucky, Jason Smith of Missouri, and Jim Jordan of Ohio to spearhead the inquiry.
Furthermore, McCarthy, alongside other influential House Republicans, is expected to make a persuasive case during a special conference meeting on Thursday regarding the ongoing congressional investigations led by Republicans.
