Evander Kane Launches ‘Defy Clothing’ Despite Numerous Pending Legal and Bankruptcy Cases

Looking back on 2022, Edmonton Oiler Evander Kane made as much of a mess in court as he did on the ice.

(And you can only imagine what a disaster the dockets look like in comparison to the huge bloody mess he made on the ice in November when a player skated over Kane’s wrist landing him on the long-term injured list.)

FACTZ has been covering the Evander Kane Chronicles since our launch and there are no shortage of headlines—you’ll have to read some of the replay below for that.

But now coming up December 20, the NHL player, whose resume includes allegations of rape, violence, gambling addiction, potential bank fraud and more, adds fashion designer to the list as he will debut Defy clothing, in partnership with In House Inc. On his Instagram page, Kane writes …

“As many of you already know, I’ve always tried to use my platform as a professional athlete to raise awareness about societal issues. This venture into fashion is my message to those that feel undervalued and overlooked in any way.

Defy memorializes the personal adversity that I, as well as many others, have faced growing up as black hockey players. Time after time I was told I could never make it, and once I did, my presence fueled hate. Many have tried to bring me, and other players that look like me, down – but it didn’t matter.

When they doubt, we DEFY.

This brand serves as a symbol of hope, and a testament that hard work can pay off. Come join me, and let’s defy all odds, together.”

Given that Kane is still trying to get out from under his piles of loan and gambling debt, we think that it will DEFY odds if this brand ever makes it to its drop date of early 2023. And we definitely know, Kane isn’t putting in any money to help the cause.

When Kane filed BK more than two years ago he claimed he had assets of $10.2 million and debts of $26.8 million, much of it recently borrowed bank debt. But between 2014 and 2018, Kane also borrowed almost $30 million in 16 separate transactions with the proceeds often used to pay down or retire previous loans. Since 2014, Kane has entered 24 separate lending arrangements. Apparently, he even spent $9,000 on a Pokemon trading card.

Here’s a look back at the Evander Kane Chronicles 2022 highlight reel and you make the call on the viability of DEFY.
