Twitter Blue, which now costs $7.99 a month, gives you a blue verified check mark – but only for iPhones and iPads for now.
It went live shortly after the midterm elections wrapped up, and reactions haven’t been super enthusiastic.
Musk has promised a variety of benefits for that $8 a month, including the verification mark, priority in replies, mentions, and search, along with “half as many ads.”
But only the check marks are live currently, so everyone paying for it is still waiting on the rest of the features.
And the price is listed as a “limited-time offer,” so Musk could revert to the $19.99 price he initially pushed, which people are understandably not thrilled about.
Musk recently also scrapped remote workers for his remaining staff (after axing 50% of Twitter’s workforce). All in all, it’s been a lackluster week for the new Chief Twit, who keeps waffling on his biggest promises.
And after launching the new Twitter Blue, Musk had to suspend new accounts from subscribing. It’s chaos over in Birdland, with verified accounts immediately using their status to push fake news – because who saw that coming – and Musk having to roll back and change things on the fly.
After all, who ever heard of taking your time to get things right before implementing them? Much better to push things hard and fast, break them just as hard, and then scramble to fix it all. That seems like a sound Billionaire plan.
