Elon Musk Could Owe $100M for (Failed) Attempt to Back Out of Twitter Deal

It looks like Elon Musk will be buying Twitter for $44B after all.

The Tesla founder and tech mogul offered to buy Twitter for a staggering amount before attempting to back out of the deal earlier this year.

Now, as Musk faced a high-stakes court battle over his attempt to withdraw from the deal, he offered to seal the deal on the original terms.

Twitter seems amenable to that solution, so they may both avoid the court battle neither wanted.

But Elon Musk could still get stuck with $100M in legal fees.

Twitter and Musk hired over 50 lawyers in the months leading up to the trial, and some lawyers could be bringing in as much as $2,500 an hour.

The $100M estimate only covers Musk’s side of things, and he could still be liable to cover some of Twitter’s legal costs – ironic since he’ll likely soon be the owner.

It just shows that you shouldn’t enter into a $44B deal if you don’t plan to follow through, which applies to all of us.
